NORFOLK- The Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Boise (SSN 764) returned to Naval Station Norfolk NOB today from a regularly scheduled deployment.USS Boise (SSN 764) has won the 2010 Battenberg Cup Award as the best all-around ship in the U.S. Atlantic Fleet.
Boise is the second U.S. Navy ship to bear the name of Idaho’s capital city. Built by Newport News Shipbuilding, the Boise was commissioned, November 7, 1992.
The 360-foot ship has a crew compliment of 13 officers and 121 enlisted sailors.
The Navy says, fast-attack submarines like the USS Boise have multi-faceted missions.Utilizes stealth, persistence, agility and firepower to deploy and support special forces operations all around the world, The Boise disrupts and destroys an adversary’s military and economic operations at sea, It also provides early strike from close proximity, and ensure undersea Domination.
